Using Twitter for Business

It's not just about 140 characters...it's more than that. It's about convincing your target audience in shortest possible way. From lengthy newspaper ads, and expensive television commercials, modern marketers have shifted their focus towards more robust and stable communication platforms. The shift is from self promotion to user engagement, adding value to overall marketing activities. Social media marketing is communications marketing. Therefore, platform like Twitter offers businesses an ideal way to get engaged and communicate with their target audience in real-time scenario. With every interaction, organizations are stepping closer to their audience, enhancing their business chances.

Here are some useful factors that determine the success of your Twitter marketing...

1) Relevance: One of the three important 'R's' of social media marketing (the other two being real-time and reach), relevance really plays a major role in Twitter marketing. Finding relevant users makes it easier for organizations to create right buzz on the social network.

2) Join the conversation: I have seen organizations jumping into this 'social arena' with half knowledge. I am referring half knowledge as they have knowledge about their products and services; however, they do not know how to communicate it on the social platforms. This is like a 'one-way' traffic. And this is very dangerous. The best way to use Twitter is to listen and join existing conversations. This gives you an opportunity to know what people are saying about the industry, and how can he jump into this conversation. The basic idea is to become an integral part of that conversation and convey your message to the larger audience.

3) Consistency: Social media is the place to 'create content to communicate'. However, this content creation needs to happen on a regular basis. Consistency is the key. In the wake of growing competition, organizations can really make a difference amongst competition with the help of this consistency. For any social media platform, it is very essential to maintain the consistency, and Twitter is not an exception to that. It is very important for any brand or business to make their presence felt on Twitter through regular tweets. So, when you are there, be there!

4) Customization: For any marketing activity, customization is the key. Having customized presence on Twitter helps users find your brand, organization easily. This customization is not just about design or colors; it's about creating your identity on this populous social media platform. Using company logo, tagline on Twitter boosts organizations' brand building efforts on Twitter.

For any social media platform, creating appealing content consistently is the key...and Twitter is no exception to it. After all, social media marketing is all about communications marketing...

Relevance and Influence: Balance is the Key

Relevance and influence are two important aspects of social media marketing. Which one of them is more important is very difficult question to answer. The key is to maintain balance between these two. However, it's not that easy. For me, the best way to attain this balance is to have content consistency. I would consider content as a magical lamp to solve social media challenges.  Marketers need to use content precisely to have a great mix of relevance and influence in their marketing strategy. This can be done by effective content syndication. Content syndication does not necessarily mean content repetition, it can be referred as sending consistent marketing message across all the platforms. The success of these two important elements is largely depend on the effective customer engagement, and again content comes in the picture.  Social media has provided marketers with ample sharing opportunities, however,  they need to be utilized properly.
